ONE Heavyweight World Champion Brandon ‘The Truth’ Vera is set to clash with two-division World Champion Aung La N Sang for the light heavyweight title at ONE: Century in Tokyo, Japan.
The Filipino Heavyweight Champion challenged ‘The Burmese Python’ last March, after N Sang successfully defended his title against Ken Hasegawa at ONE: A New Era, which was also held in Tokyo.
“I wasn’t very comfortable doing that inside the cage. It was Aung La N Sang‘s time to shine, but I’ve been wanting to become a double titleholder – a champ-champ – and I’ve always wanted to challenge for the ONE Light Heavyweight World Title,” said Vera.
“When I went in there, I was very nervous – not about challenging, but doing it in the most respectful way that Aung La deserves – especially after he just won his ONE Middleweight World Championship bout against Ken Hasegawa,” he added.
Vera also sees N Sang not only as an alpha male, but also a respectful and classy Champion. With a professional record of 25-10-1, the Burmese hero is currently riding a six-bout streak, including five knockouts and a submission.
A win will make the American-born fighter hold both the light heavyweight and heavyweight championship titles. Turning 42 years old by his next fight, Vera believes his experience will give him an edge against N Sang, rather than a disadvantage.
“During his matches, I look for those little holes he still has because of his lack of experience. I’m not going to outpace Aung La, I’m not going to outwork Aung La. I’m not going to be a bully because that’s impossible,” commented Vera. “I’m super excited for this match.”
The two titans is set to collide in the co-main event at ONE: Century, on October 13 at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan.
