Thailand’s Sam-A Gaiyanghadao is set to put his ONE Flyweight Muay Thai world championship on the line against British challenger Jonathan Haggerty in the main event of ONE: For Honor in Jakarta May 3.
Gaiyanghadao will be back in action for the first time since winning the inaugural ONE Super Series Flyweight Muay Thai world title May 2018 when he scored an impressive knockout of his Dutch-Surinamese foe Sergio Wielzen.
On the other hand, Haggerty will come into the title bout fresh off his ONE debut where he picked up a convincing victory over Italy’s Joseph Lasiri in January to set the stage for his duel with the Thai champion.
The matchup should provide another classic clash pitting youth against experience with Haggerty looking to utilize his brilliant striking, high fight IQ and prime, while Gaiyanghadao will carry in his extensive experience with him come fight night.
Also on the night, former ONE Featherweight Champion Marat “Cobra” Gafurov is slated to meet Japan’s Tetsuya Yamada in a bout which could provide implications in determining the next challenger to Martin Nguyen’s reign over the division.
Gafurov won his previous fight over Emilio Urutia with a first round arm triangle last year to redeem himself following a devastating defeat at the hands of Nguyen August 2017.
Meanwhile, Yamada will enter the contest riding a two-fight win streak after disposing Eric Kelly and Rafael Nunes respectively.
