Filipino and Team Lakay fighter Joshua Pacio will get another shot at the ONE Championship Strawweight title as he prepares for a rematch against Japanese champion Yoshitaka Naito at the Jakarta Center on Saturday, September 22nd.

Roughly two years after missing his chance at becoming the Philippines’ youngest mixed martial arts champion, Pacio will have a chance to revenge his 2016 defeat against the same man who initially deprived him of the title. The two sluggers first squared off in Myanmar, where Naito gifted the Filipino his maiden defeat via a rear-naked choke in the fourth round of their October 2016 title bout.

However, Naito’s 2016 triumph was no cakewalk as Pacio gave the Japanese fighter a run for his money. The two were matched punch-to-punch until Team Lakay’s rising star committed a huge blunder which Naito was able to take full advantage of. This time around, Pacio will be hoping to correct that costly mistake to finally fulfill his life-long dream of walking away as the champion.

Fresh off a victory over Pongsiri Mitsatit, which earned him the right for a much anticipated rematch against the division champion, Pacio is carrying a three-fight win streak, an intangible that could serve as a big boost in his quest to come out on top. On the other hand, the defending champion had just reclaimed his title after outlasting Alex Silva last May.
