The ONE Interim Bantamweight Title will be on the line at ONE: Reign of Kings as two-division World Champion Martin ‘The Situ-Asian’ Nguyen continues his quest to a third World Title in the bantamweight division against local hero Kevin ‘The Silencer’ Belingon in the main event.
Nguyen holds both the featherweight and lightweight World Titles, successfully defended the former against young hotshot Christian Lee in Singapore last May. He previously missed out on the bantamweight title after losing in a split decision to Bibiano ‘The Flash’ Fernandes in March.
“Bibiano (Fernandes) should watch this fight with a close eye. He knows who the rightful challenger is,” Nguyen says. “It’s either me or Kevin (Belingon), and I will be doing everything in my power to finish this one. This is a fan-friendly match-up between two aggressive, young beasts, and I can’t wait to lock horns with Kevin. There will be fireworks.”
The last time Nguyen faced off against a Filipino in Manila, he took home the lightweight belt from Belingon’s stable-mate from Team Lakay, Eduard ‘Landslide’ Folayang via a knockout at 2:20 of round two last November.
Belingon, on the other hand, earned the match against Nguyen after stunning Andrew Leone with spinning back kick in April, prompting referee Olivier Coste to end the contest at 1:27 of round two via a TKO.
“As one of the top bantamweights in ONE Championship, I am willing to take on all comers,” says Belingon. “It doesn’t matter to me who is the opponent. In fact, I am honored to face Martin Nguyen, a two-division World Champion. If I can beat Martin, it would be huge.”
Also on the card is former ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang, who returns to compete in front of the home crowd for the first time since the falling to Nguyen back in November. The local martial arts hero recently took down Kharun Atlangeriev last May, handling the Russian his first defeat.
ONE Championship returns to the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines for REIGN OF KINGS on July 27.
